PCS Online An anti-Provo Canyon School Web site
I've come across a number of sites for school reunions of one kind or another, but I've never seen one for the high school I went to, so here it is. This site is in no way affiliated with Provo Canyon School, Charter Health Facilities, the Mormon Church, or any other establishment. I am a former "student," if you could call it that, and I have put up this site for the purpose of telling the world about Provo Canyon School and providing former students with a place to air their views. I am very interested to hear from other students how their experiences at PCS have affected their adult lives, and invite you to respond through either the guest book or to me directly at gubes@netscape.net.

Update 5 February 2000-- In the past few months, I received several letters from anguished parents who have come across this site in searching for help for their teens. Although I have been deeply moved by the despair and frustration evident in several of the messages, I must remind you that experiences at PCS do not make me qualified to offer advice, referrals, etc. I do not have any type of degree in psychology. Hell, I don't even have any children of my own. Still, I do have a few final words on the subject: If you are looking for advice on 'emotional growth' schools, I would suggest that you locate a psychologist who specializes in adolescent treatment. Of course, you still run the risk that this professional will receive some type of kickback for referring your child for treatment at such an institution, and you should take this into consideration whenever you are offered a 'solution' for your teen's problems. As most mature people know, there is no such thing as a perfect solution to any problem, regardless of what professionals or admissions officials may tell you. Before signing any commitment papers, you should consider that, as a parent, you will be held legally accountable if the staff of the school abuses your teen physically or mentally or withholds basic human rights from him or her at any point in their incarceration. For example, if your teen gets held in isolation rooms for long periods, or is beaten by staff or even other students, you may well find yourself at the receiving end of a lawsuit brought by your teen when he or she reaches the age of majority in your state. Anyway, the main purpose of this site is to tell my story, as well as offer some hope and comfort to any fellow students. Since we have been denied the opportunity to reunite or otherwise commiserate about our experiences at Provo Canyon School, this Web page is pretty much the only method of communication we have. So, while I do value the comments of distraught parents, I would ask that only former PCS students attempt to contact me at this point. Thank you. Also, in the interest of fairness, I think I should print a message I received after I posted a link to this site on 'Bridge to Understanding,' a Web site which seems to be supported by a consortium of 'emotional growth schools.' A new message, "Update and correction on Provo Canyon School," was posted on the Bridge to Understanding Discussion Forum by Tom C. on Sunday, 23 January 2000, at 4:08 p.m. It is a response to your post, "Provo Canyon School," of Sunday, 23 January 2000, at 5:15 a.m. The message reads as follows: ------------------------- Provo Canyon School is now a psychiatric facility operated by Charter Medical Corporation. The site referenced above contains information which has not been accurate regarding the school for many years. We are not affirming that it was ever accurate, but it is clearly not accurate today. I have the utmost sympathy and concern for the person who designed the linked Web site, and I hope he will receive empathetic responses involving his own pain. But the conditions he describes DO NOT accurately describe Provo Canyon School today. Tom C.
